Pieter-Jan Poppeliers – Summer 2023 intern

Each summer, Twipe warmly embraces a group of interns to join our teams. Our internship program offers students a chance to acquire invaluable professional experience, while also getting fresh perspectives that both challenge and enhance our current processes. This summer, we also have Pieter-Jan Poppeliers joined our Customer Delivery squad in the Frontend chapter. Read on to hear about his experiences and why he chose Twipe.

Why did you choose to do your summer internship at Twipe?

Well thanks to the best advertising there is, word-of-mouth. I already had numerous encounters with Twipe due to all events they organised, but the key factor of applying to Twipe is thanks to the experience my friends had working there. The foosball might also have something to do with it.

Which projects did you work on and what stood out?

I had the opportunity to work on one project which is building a web app to enhance the styling process for NextGen. This project held a dual purpose: firstly, it aimed to streamline the styling procedures for NextGen, optimizing the overall workflow. By creating a user-friendly platform that simplified the styling tasks, we were able to significantly reduce production time and enhance the visual consistency of NextGen.

Secondly, the app was designed to make the styling process to be easily outsourced. Although I had absolutely zero frontend experience, I was entrusted with a big project where I could take complete ownership of the product, had the responsibilities to set and follow my own deadlines and noticed a direct impact on the company. I would say this is a unique experience.

How did you find the vibe being part of the dynamic Twipe team?

Well work hard, play hard (foosball) can be applied. A young welcoming team where each member has their unique talents brought all together by the leadership team enabling Twipe to truly deliver excellence. I learned a lot, laughed a lot, truly couldn’t ask for more!

What is the key thing you learnt during your internship?

Working at Twipe for the past 6 weeks, I’ve come to realize that as a future graduate, I am fully capable of thriving in the professional world. Working within a dynamic team and contributing to real projects has shown me that the knowledge and skills I’ve gained during my academic journey are not just theoretical, but they can be effectively applied to real-world challenges. This realisation boosted my confidence to transition into a professional role after graduation.

Would you recommend Twipe to future interns?

Twipe? Oh, I’d recommend it faster than you can say ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ with a mouthful of marshmallows! 🚀🌟
