On April 23 & 24, Academics for Technology organizes its yearly hackathon together with Major League Hacking. Twipe is happy to announce they are the main sponsor of this event.

The Future of News

During a 24 hours marathon, teams will be challenged to re-think the future of the news industry. To get the hackers up-to-speed, Twipe has provided two sets of data for students to use with their hacks. An API giving access to the newspaper articles of Het Nieuwsblad and Het Belang van Limburg and a set of Big Data retrieved during our Digital Reader Engagement project. With these datasets students can be creative and try to disrupt the future of news.

Academics for Technology (AFT)

Academics for Technology is a student organization mainly active in Leuven and linked to the oldest university of Belgium, KULeuven. Their aim is to introduce students to technology and entrepreneurship. They do this by organizing all sorts of events: workshops, hackathons and many more.

Major League Hacking (MLH)

Major League Hacking is the ‘official student hackathon league’. MLH sponsors and promotes students hackathons worldwide. They provide mentorship and support to over 70 collegiate hackathons each season. Over 25,000 students compete in these hackathons and win points for their school. At the end of every hackathon season, the school with the most points is awarded the MLH Hacker Cup.

First Price: Raspberry PI

Twipe is not only providing data sets. We also sponsor the logistics, are part of the jury and offer the first price!

‘We are proud to announce today that every member of the winning team will receive the newest Raspberry PI 3.’ Danny Lein, Founder & CEO of Twipe
