This year’s predictions revolved around several critical themes such as AI, news consumption patterns, the role of journalism in democracy, the importance of local and community-focused journalism, misinformation and media ethics, and media business models.

OpenAI is reportedly putting as little as $1 million and perhaps only up to $5 million on the table in an effort to strike deals with news publishing firms to use their content to train its large language models.
The report states that the company is currently negotiating with about a dozen media companies.

Podcast execs weren’t shy about how difficult of a year it was for their businesses, facing advertising slowdowns and the challenges associated with a maturing medium.
Despite the ghost of 2023 following them into the new year, heads of podcasts at five companies were optimistic about 2024 when speaking with Digiday, sharing positive signals of continued audience growth, new advertising dollars coming into the medium and opportunities to expand shows into franchises.
